We booked our January 2016 trip to Martinique, Domenica and Guadeloupe at the last minute so most decent hotels were full. From the pictures, it looked like we scored when we found the Cocoteraie in Guadeloupe had availability. The reality, however, was this place had space for a reason. Though it must have been the height of luxury in the 80s, the property was not aging well – among many deficiencies, the air conditioner left a lake in our foyer and none of the doors would lock. But on the bright side we had this great view (that is until we were forced to retreat inside when the cleaning ladies mopped the terrace above us, sweeping brown, dirty water into the gutters that emptied directly onto our lounge chairs below.) You can’t win them all.
