Welcome and thank you for visiting Postcards from the Second Act.
If you are new to this site, don’t worry, so am I! This is my first attempt at blogging and I’m learning new things every day. Turns out that writing a blog isn’t that hard. Getting it up and running, now that’s the challenge.
You’ll find all kinds of stories on this blog from narratives to itineraries to photo essays to personal musings. Nothing is chronological. Sometimes I will write about a trip I just took, other times I might go way back in my travel vault to tell a story that happened years ago. And so we are clear, most of my travel recommendations are geared towards mature travellers with healthy budgets. There are plenty of fantastic sites out there that highlight ways to travel on the cheap – this is not one of them.
Travel stories are categorized by their continent and country in the DESTINATIONS section. But I’ve also created some theme features that you may like. My foodie husband constantly exposes me to new cuisines and world class restaurants. I share those experiences in the MAGICAL MEALS section. The MUSINGS section (a.k.a. Deep Thoughts by Kimberly Wright) features personal essays about…well, stuff that crosses my mind. Sometimes I just like to post pretty pictures. They are in the PHOTO ESSAY section. If you love a good road trip like I do, explore the ROAD TRIP! section for stories chronicling our adventures on the road. ROOMS WITH VIEWS is the place to glimpse some of the amazing views we’ve been lucky enough to enjoy. SPECIAL STAYS focuses on specific hotels or inns where the hospitality, service and design are so outstanding they deserve their own post. And finally, if you want some inspiration for a short, out-of-town trip, or only have a few days to spend in a city, check out my THREE-DAY GETAWAY section for hotel, restaurant and activity suggestions for a various places around the world.
All editorial is based solely on my own opinions. I do not accept free trips (except of course from my husband) or any monetary or equivalent in-kind gifts from hotels, restaurants, airlines or tour operators.
I hope you enjoy what you see and read and that you come back on a regular basis to check out what is new. Please send me your comments, I’d love to hear about your travel dreams and experiences, too.
